Welcome to the PSHE curriculum page for All Saints Babbacombe CofE Primary School.
Over the last few years we have been developing our curriculum; ensuring it not only offers a rich variety of engaging activities but also focuses on developing a wide knowledge base.
Below you will find our PSHE progressions - these documents show what knowledge we aim to teach and when the children will learn them :

The intent of our PSHE curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and that will maximise the outcomes for every child so that they know more, remember more and understand more. As a result of this they will become healthy, independent and responsible members of a society who understand how they are developing personally and socially, and give them confidence to tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.
At our school we use a comprehensive scheme of work for PSHE, RSE and Wellbeing education.
We follow the six suggested half termly units and adapt the scheme of work where necessary to meet the local circumstances of our school.
We have chosen our PSHE resource because the lessons build upon children’s prior learning; we have assessed the content and feel that it is relevant and sensitive to the needs of the children. There is planned progression across the scheme of work, so that children are increasingly and appropriately challenged as they move up through the school. Assessment is completed by the class teacher using the range of assessment tools, to demonstrate progression of both skills and knowledge.
The programme divides the year into 6 themed units:
-Me and My Relationships: includes content on feelings, emotions, conflict resolution and friendships;
-Valuing Difference: a focus on respectful relationships and British values;
-Keeping Myself Safe: looking at keeping ourselves healthy and safe
-Rights and Responsibilities: learning about money, living the wider world and the environment;
-Being My Best: developing skills in keeping healthy, developing a growth mindset (resilience), goal-setting and achievement;
-Growing and Changing: finding out about the human body, the changes that take place from birth to old age and being safe.
Children are encouraged to engage in activities that promote an understanding of themselves as growing and changing individuals, and as members of a wider community, based on their own first hand experiences. These activities also encourage pupils to understand how their choices and behaviours can affect others. They are encouraged to play and learn alongside – then collaboratively with – their peers. They may use their personal and social skills to develop or extend these activities. Children are also given the opportunity to make choices about their health and environment and are encouraged to develop a caring attitude towards others.
At our schools we seek to ensure that the PSHE that we teach, improves the physical and social well-being of pupils. Through our PSHE education, we believe we can enhance children’s education and help them to become caring, respectful, aspirational and confident individuals. It will: -
The use of the scheme of work enables us to fulfil this.
